Getting chiropractic is a lot like building a house. There is a certain order that things have to happen in order for the building, and the body, to stand strong and work together properly. If you try to do things out of order, like building your walls before the foundation, your walls will be structurally weak and will eventually collapse. When you try to build your roof, and your walls weren't ready or structurally sound, then the roof would have the same outcome as the walls. It would eventually collapse. If you take these concepts and think about the body in the same light, you can understand how chiropractic care works. When the foundation of your body is off, it'll create problems in other areas of your body, forcing it to collapse or fall into a state of dis-ease. With chiropractic, there are certain orders that your body has to go through before true health can be achieved. There are three distinct phases of care that you'll go through in our office. . .
If you are in pain when you come into our Grand Rapids chiropractic office, our first and foremost goal is to get rid of your symptoms and your pain. It really depends on the severity of the underlying problem or condition to know how many times you're going to need to come in for care. Sometimes, it's daily for the first week and sometimes it's 2-3 times per week for 4-12 weeks. No two people are alike, and no two conditions are alike.
During this phase, we will make long lasting corrections to your spine. The muscles, ligaments and tendons are allowed to heal more completely. This will help prevent other injuries and keep your prior injury from recurring. Also during this phase, we will utilize exercises and other rehabilitation procedures to help restore your spine back to it's normal alignment. We want to restore 100% function during this phase of care. Sometimes, depending on the severity of the problem, 100% is not achievable. In this case, we're trying to restore you to as high functioning as possible. This phase will usually take about 1-2 times per week for 6-24 months, depending on the severity of the condition and the overall health of the patient.
Once we've got you as good as we can get you, it is important to come in for periodic chiropractic check-ups to avoid further problems. Usually, this phase of care is 1-4 times per month, based on your lifestyle and goals. Most of our patient's use chiropractic as a way to help maintain their health and prevent injuries.
