Proper Ergonomics for Traveling

When you travel, you need to be mindful of how you sit and other related aspects of traveling. It’s beneficial to talk to a chiropractor before your trip to get some advice about ergonomics and pain management for your specific conditions and concerns. Simple Truth Chiropractic, serving the Grand Rapids and Lake Odessa, MI, areas, is ready to help. Here are some ideas for proper ergonomics when you’re on your travels.

Use a Special Backrest

Gain better lumbar support with a self-inflating backrest that you can flatten for packing. You can use it horizontally or vertically. When you use it vertically, it reduces discomfort from sitting in seats where the headrest is too far forward, too high, or too low. This helps your posture a great deal when on long flights.

A Travel Footrest Is Ideal

Do your legs not reach the floor when you’re sitting in your airline seat? If so, it’s a good idea to use a travel footrest. A footrest can help prevent issues with leg compression. It also helps if you’re pregnant or you have varicose veins, and is useful for helping children maintain proper posture while traveling. If you’re too tall for the seats, you can sit in the emergency exit or bulkhead area seats which will give you more legroom.

Consider the Armrests

Armrests on planes can be rock hard. This can lead to forearm compression. It’s in your best interest to place something soft over the top, such as a jacket or a thick scarf.

Avoid Using Heavy Suitcases

If you can help it, avoid bringing a suitcase that’s bulky or heavy. You don’t want to have to drag or roll this through the airport. On the same note, it’s important to take advantage of the luggage racks once you get to your hotel room and store it bottom-down, so you don’t have to strain your back, especially if you already have back pain.
